Jesus prayed more for protection of his charges in Jn 17 than anything else, even more than unity.  But I noticed he did something else really powerful.  He followed up with his actions.  It wasn’t just a prayer and some words.  Check it out here:

When they came to arrest Jesus said to the soldiers,

“I told you that I am he,” Jesus answered.  “If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” (Jn 18:8)

Jesus didn’t just let them go at the disciples.  He didn’t side-step and blame them, letting them take the heat.

As an authority he stood for them.  He protected them.  He took action when it became necessary on the very things he prayed about.

That has power to transform.
