We live in a Murphy’s Laws culture–you know, those laws that say that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Funny, but oh so deadly. I hear it often in our voiceless sighs. And I also heard it voiced in many different ways. Today it sounded like this from the person in front of me at the check-out line when her rewards card didn’t work: “figures this would happen.” It’s a culture of cynacism. A culture almost waiting for things to not work out.

But David counters every hint of futility with this: “surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.” I think if we practiced this Scripture alone, our world would be rocked. If goodness and love follow us all the days of our life then goodness and love are what we are surrounded by, we only need eyes to see. (Insert the reading of the book One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.) If our eyes are good, then our whole bodies will be full of light. Someone important said that. So what do we see? Goodness and love throughout every day? Our thoughts will tell us the truth.
