“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence” (Eph 3:12).
We sometimes forget as Christians how holy, and honestly, kind of terrifying God is. He truly is the maker of the entire universe. He is not some big, sweet teddy bear in the sky.
Worse, because he is Holiness, Righteousness, and Justice, no sin can enter His Presence. None. Nothing at all. You can’t be 99.9% good and have .1% evil and that dwell with God. Holiness does not allow that. Righteousness does not allow that. Justice does not allow that.
Yes, God is Good. But we cannot forget his Holiness.
That puts us in a terrifying position before God. If we come before him with any evil/sin, we are in trouble. The only place for us is eternal death and damnation. It’s not a game.
But God through Christ paid for our sins on the cross, making an eternal covenant with those who put their faith in him. That the blood of Christ covers us from all unrighteousness. Our sins are atoned for and we can now stand before God.
Not be terrified. But actually come to him with freedom and confidence of one who is cleansed.
What Jesus did was it make it safe for us. Safe for us to stand before God. Because the blood of Jesus covers us. Protects us. And has washed our sins away keeping us in his permanent safety.
Jesus has made us safe.
