What happens after we die? It is the thought of everyone at some point. Especially as a person gets older, they tend to think more on the fragility of life and to ponder what is next.
For so many, the answer to prepare is to try to be as good as person as possible. The problem is that none of us truly good. We have all made serious mistakes. Even if we haven’t, we all are sinners. It is utterly impossible to erase our sins with our good works. It just won’t happen.
Unfun fact: The death penalty awaits us for our sins.
It’s the sting of death. That we will have to pay for our sins and spend an eternity in Hell. Is this just? Absolutely. Our sins are crimes and people have been harmed.
There’s good news though. Jesus laid down his life to pay for our sins.
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15:56-57).
Jesus conquered death and sin on the cross. It is finished. Because of this we are confident that not only will we be raised from the dead, we will be with him forever. Why? Because Jesus solved our sin problem with his own life.
What should be our response?
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Cor 15:58).
We stand firm. We don’t let the latest trendy teaching, doctrine, or nonsense move us from the immovable reality of our firm salvation. And we labor fully in the Lord even we don’t see the results.
