To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Job Responds to Eliphaz as a Broken Man – Job 16

You are all miserable comforters.  Is there no end to your empty words?” (Job 16:2-3).

If you were in my place…I could string words together against you and shake my head at you.  Instead, I would encourage you with my mouth, and the consolation from my lips would bring relief” (Job 16:4-5).

Job is appalled at his friends.  Instead of comforting him as he did for so many others, his friends accuse and shake their head at his suffering.  And it hurts.

But once again he laments before God in his suffering.

Surely He has now exhausted me.  You have devastated my entire family” (Job 16:7).

I was at ease, but He shattered me; He seized me by the scruff of the neck and smashed me to pieces” (Job 16:12).

My face has grown red with weeping, and darkness covers my eyes, although my hands are free from violence and my prayer is pure” (Job 16:17).

For only a few years will pass before I go the way of no return” (Job 16:22).

Job’s suffering continues.  From his friends, in his body, from everywhere.
