I opened the news this morning and looked at headlines.  Again I read about people and leaders where laws apply to the people but applied differently to them.  This happens in every political party and it’s terrible.

Why it’s so terrible is that when leaders and judges and media outlets do not rule according to the law but according to their political bent, it creates deep insecurity in the people.  They know that they cannot trust their leaders as they cannot get justice.  This insecurity among people creates situations that if I were to tell you about this writing would be further censored than it already is at the moment.

In Psalm 72 it is a prayer at “inauguration.”  In this case it is Solomon who is being coronated as king, and the people are praying for him.  They are praying that he will be a king that will lead in justice and righteousness.  That he will be a king that stands up when the poor are oppressed and he will bring justice to the oppressors.

They pray that he will bless the nation of Israel and not only that but all the nations around them would be blessed by his good leadership.  So much so that the nations of the world would bring him honor.

They pray that he will lead in such a way that there will be abundance.  The people will flourish as well as the food, the fields and their work.

And in all this that the Lord God would be praised and glorified.

When rulers rule fairly, apply the law equally, protect those who are harmed and bring justice to those who do harm, who rule in accordance with the ways of God, where leaders aren’t swayed by media, mob, or money, the earth is blessed.  The people are blessed.  The nations are blessed.

Every nation needs this.

Every nation needs to pray this.
