We understand that non-Christians are going to act like non-Christians, but sometimes common sense action we expect from those we know.   Yet common sense or not, the unredeemed heart is very unredeemed and without a  yearning for selflessness.  That requires great patience to remember.  Because it is the same patience we have received.
