They said Jesus and all people do not rise from the dead. Paul corrected them, then made the strong declaration, Jesus is indeed raised from the dead.
“But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all” (1 Cor 15:20-28).
We all die. But through Christ, we will be made alive again. Here some things to ponder.
1) All will be made alive
First Christ, then those who belong to him. This raises several questions.
When it says “all” will made alive, does he also mean unbelievers? Specifically in this context?
We know from other texts that there will indeed be a resurrection of the dead of both the righteous and the unrighteous (John 5:28-29). This is established.
But what about in this context? Because we have another peculiarity.
2) In Christ, all will be made alive, but in their own turn. First Christ, then those who belong to him. Does that mean that Christ is not alive right now?
Not at all. We know He is living and reigning in heaven.
Paul is talking about an alive that is in Christ, and eternal.
3) After we are made alive, the end will come.
At this time he will hand over the kingdom to God the Father.
4) Before the final submission of Christ to the Father, Jesus will
Destroy all dominion, authority, and power.
He will reign, putting all enemies under his feet.
The last enemy will be death.
What all does this look like? To be honest, I don’t think anyone knows for sure. Nobody figured out Jesus’ first coming correctly, and I don’t think anyone will fully know what this looks like either. Only that it will happen.
Then Paul makes a quick clarification. He wants them to know that putting all things under his feed does not mean the Father is put under Christ’s feet.
