This morning I woke up and as usual checked on the events of the world to make sure we are all still here, then made a quick phone call for work, and then get out of bed. I know. Don’t judge me too harshly if you’ve done so yourself.
But by the time I got to the Word I realized how much my head space is just full and clouded. We have so much going on and our minds are just racing. So much so that the average person isn’t able to read a book anymore as they can’t concentrate that long. If you haven’t tried it lately, go ahead. Our attention spans really have been trained.
And then there’s this whole chapter on wisdom. Is it wise to have my mind this cluttered with world events and daily events and everything in between? Can wisdom be found in that place? No doubt wisdom calls out. But can a filled up mind truly find wisdom?
And then I read this:
“Develop common sense you who are foolish” (Prov 8:5). Oh how I wish common sense were common again. Truly. Right now it’s about getting people to your side, and not about obvious common sense.
Right before I opened the Bible I checked the news and saw the worst click bait on main stream media I have ever seen. It was utterly dangerous and bad enough to trigger even further war. Where is common sense to say that this is a really bad thing to do?
And then I saw another video someone sent me of one very authoritarian prime minister speak against the evils of authoritarianism. Authoritarianism is bad as long as it’s not you. How can something so obvious deceive himself and the people? Utterly crazy.
If there’s one thing we lack in this world it is wisdom. There is a belief that “for the safety of the people” that all wisdom, truth and discretion is thrown aside for the sake of “the cause.” Will this come to us en masse as the common populace as well? Will it come to me?
“To fear the LORD is to hate evil” (Prov 8:13).
Do I truly hate evil? Or have I been softened up by the world to accept it, tolerate it, deal with it or be Ok with it? Do I truly HATE evil? I do when it hurts me. I do when it hurts those I love. But what if it is far away and I’m not affected by it? Do I truly hate it?
How do we get wisdom? For certain we find it in His Word. We are revealed it in His Holy Spirit. We gain more understanding by living in righteousness, justice and holiness.
“I love those who love me, and those who search for me find me” (Prov 8:17).
I need a lot more wisdom than what I’m currently living. Again, I’m not sure wisdom and the sheer volume of mind clutter are neighbors that give life to one another. O God, help us all.
