To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

God Loves Jerusalem – Ps 87

Once just a hill on the middle of nowhere, God established His place, His people and His Presence in Jerusalem.  He loves Mount Zion.  Much is said about this holy city throughout Scripture.

It meant something to be born there.  But then the psalmist says something enigmatic:

“”I will mention those who know Me:  Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre and Cush–each one was born there“” – Ps 87:4

It’s fairly certain that Rahab is a reference for Egypt, and the rest are also all enemies of Israel.  So why say each one was born there?  Some see this as a prophecy that God will bring the Gentiles into the church.  That the purposes of these nations were ultimately “born” in Mount Zion and grafted in.

It’s honestly a tricky statement.  Not so clear to understand.

But we do know clearly that to be born either physically or spiritually into Mount Zion was a great honor.

When he registers the peoples, the LORD will record, “This one was born there” (Ps 87:6).

It was a fact of great rejoicing.
