To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Good Friday and Hosea

It’s Good Friday today which is a day that commemorates the death of Jesus on the cross. The cross is everything. It is where our sins were paid for and we no longer have to strive for a righteousness we cannot attain, but we are given a righteousness from Him that he made possible. What a day!

I was thinking this morning of Good Friday and Hosea. Hosea was told to marry a prostitute as a symbol of God’s love for Israel. Israel had prostituted themselves with other gods ad nauseum. So God was going to do something drastic. He was going to stop all the outpouring of love, blessings, and goodness so that they would see that these things come from God.

And it got me to thinking. Some people feel the love of God and some don’t. But can you imagine your life if God said to you, “I want to show you how much love I pour out to you. So I’m gong to stop showing any of my love for a season.”

Imagine for a moment if God did not show his love, blessings, or kindness to your life. I think our lives would be so drastically different that just like Hosea’s wife, we would be blown away.

Then I got to thinking again. What if there was no cross? Which would mean no resurrection? And no payment for sins or hope for eternal life with God? What a bleak existence that would be. You would be stuck in your sins and your death would be eternal and punishing.

So I worship the Lord today. This morning. Because these things I don’t have to know. He is with us. He is with me. So much more than I know. I can only ask that He opens my eyes more so that He may get the praise.
