This is pointedly a psalm of David, and he comes to the Lord “as a child.” Specifically he comes not pretending to know all things, but to come humbly.
“I have calmed myself and quieted myself like a little weaned child with its mother; I am like a little child” (Ps 131:2).
This is not the language of a king. Kings try to come off as knowing more than they really do. For a king to say he is as a child is really not just a humble statement, but a great act of humility to even write.
This is echoed in the words of Jesus many years later:
“And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” – Mt 18:3.
It also makes me think of Micah Wilder who came to the LORD from his LD (mormon) roots because someone encouraged him to read the Bible “like a child,” and not just believe what others had told him to believe about the Scriptures.
We must all come to the LORD as children–content to be in His presence and not necessarily have to know everything. His presence is enough. Just like a child such a contentedness and peace being near his mother.
