To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

No One Regrets Evil – Jer 8

They forgot how to blush is how some translations put this. And this is important. Do we blush at sin? Are we hardened by it? Are we numb to it? And what about our own sin? Does it make us blush or boast?

We can have the blush of shame or the blush of intimacy. Or worse. No blush at all.

The LORD declares that as they have loved worshiping the sun, moon and stars, so their bodies will be on the ground exposed to the very things they loved.

The LORD says even the turtledoves, swallows and cranes know the ways of life. They migrate in season and follow the ways of this life as set out by God. But God’s own people do not even know the requirements of the LORD (v. 7).

They do not know sin or even care.

Were they ashamed when they acted so abhorrently? They weren’t at all ashamed. They can no longer feel humiliation” (v. 12).

The LORD says then.

Therefore, they will fall among the fallen. When I punish them, they will collapse” (v. 12).

Evil has become so normalized that we are losing our blush. Am I surprised anymore when someone becomes pregnant out of wedlock? Or of two people that live together? Am I surprised when someone comes out? We are no longer to blush, but to actually march and celebrate.

And what about my own sin and shame? Do I justify it? Do I still blush at what I’ve done?
