How we talk about something, especially initially, is how we will think about something. After a new experience such as a job, a mission trip, a vacation or any new experience, people will always ask, “how did it go?”

What you tell the outer circle of your friends is only minimally significant. It’s what you will tell your innermost circle of friends that will direct your thoughts.

If you tell them what you experienced was amazing, you will see it as even more amazing. It’s like putting on a set of glasses that will crowd out other things. If what you tell them is how hard and difficult it was, that lens of seeing the hard and difficult in the situation will grow and begin to crowd out some of the good things. If you say it was partly good and partly bad, that’s also how you will perceive things.

So does that mean we should not share our hearts with our friends? No. It’s Ok to be honest with our challenges we face. We need to heal. But in other areas, what we say will direct our thoughts. Speak accordingly.
