To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Proud of the God We Serve – Ps 67

With stringed instruments.

Let the peoples praise you, God; let all the nations praise You” (Ps 67:3,5) is a theme that this psalm resounds.  Why?

  • So that your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations” (v. 2)
  • for you judge the peoples with fairness and lead the nations on earth” (v. 4)
  • The earth has produced its harvest; God, our God, blesses us” (v. 6)

This definitely feels like a harvest celebration psalm.  But it is also a psalm of the goodness of God.  The psalmist is calling all the nations of the earth to celebrate the goodness of God and to spread His honor.

I read this psalm right after watching a video on a testimony of someone who came to the Lord out of another faith, a faith that promotes a very different picture of God.   And as I was reading this psalm, I could feel in it the sense of pride that our God is good, that he leads with righteousness and fairness, and that He loves and blesses His people.

Truly that is a God to be proud to follow, a God to declare His honor to the world, and a God worth our praises.
