Peter truly meant it. He would die for Jesus if it ever came down to it. The others all said the same.
But when it came down to it, Peter denied Jesus, all the disciples ran away, and in Jesus’ darkest moments his disciples slept. They couldn’t even stay awake.
Jesus could have written them off in that moment. But he didn’t. He could have been hurt, resentful, bitter and angry, but he wasn’t.
Instead he forgave them. Loved them. And gave them the place of restoration.
Because of it the world literally would never be the same.
That’s the power of the love of God.
