To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Rulers Ruling Righteously – Is 32

Your nation’s leader “will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the rain, like streams of water in a dry land and the shade of a massive rock in an arid land” (v. 31).

For some places, that seems like a dream.  But this is how Isaiah 32 starts out.  It’s a promise of a day when righteousness will rule and fools will not.

Then it goes on to describe a fool:

For a fool speaks foolishness and his mind plots iniquity.
He lives in a godless way and speaks falsely about the LORD.
He leaves the hungry empty and deprives the thirsty of drink” (v. 6).

The next section is about the women who are complacent.

Stand up, you complacent women; listen to me.  Pay attention to what I say you overconfident daughters.  In a little more than a year you overconfident ones will shudder for the vintage will fall and the harvest will not come” (v. 10).

This is a clear prediction of judgment and it included a time frame.  The complacent and overconfident will turn to terror and shuddering.

This will happen “until the Spirit from heaven is poured out on us” (v. 15).  Then things will be restored and justice will return.

Just as an aside, when you read this things you wonder if they are for our day.

Ok. Then a beautiful word:

The result of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever” (v. 17).

This clearly is looking to a day ahead.  Some say it is the millenial reign of Christ as well as the coming restoration of Israel.

Righteousness is the place of peace.  Unrighteousness is a horrible place to be.
