Let the vultures get drunk on the carriage that will soon happen. That’s basically Ezek 39 with some more. Israel had been sent into captivity but the LORD says they will return.
When they do a great army from the north will come against them and surround them. This is the army of King Gog. It will look utterly hopeless, but the LORD will defeat them so resoundly that the vultures and carrion will feast. It will take months just to get all the bodies picked up. We don’t know how they will die, but they will die by the thousands.
Gog had evil intent against Israel. The LORD was going to show them that God was still with Israel, and that he was above all other gods. He is mighty.
When I read Scriptures and chapters like this, we see once again how much Israel as a covenant people mattered to God. Yes, he sent them away to exile to discipline them. But they would come back purged from their sins.
And those who thought that God had abandon them, or those who thought God was weak or Israel was weak would see a different story. God is powerful and he will stand for his people.
A few years ago sometime told me, a Christian, of how much they hated Israel. I flinched at that. A) because Scripture is clear that whether holy or not, they are His chosen people and B) we are grafted into Israel. We don’t get a choice to hate Israel or not. Support of Israel is important for the purposes of God, and important to us as the grafted in part of Israel.
