What does it mean that we regard no one from a worldly point of view? What is the significance?
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Cor 5:16-17).
There is a spiritual dimension to Christ that Paul had not seen at first. That Jesus was the Son of God. Prior to that, for Paul, Jesus was another man on the street. He was controversial, and a problem, but not the Christ. That all changed when Paul had a supernatural vision. Through it, Paul no longer viewed Christ as worldly, but otherworldly.
What does it mean, then, that with anybody, we no longer see them from a worldly point of view? It’s that we see them as spiritual beings who Christ can make into an entirely new creation. They are not their old selves. We are not our old selves. We are a new creation.
To view someone from a worldly point of view is to see them through the lens of their credentials, their status, their wealth accumulation, and more. Just normal.
To see them through the eyes of Christ is to see them through eyes as God sees them. They have the potential to become new creations, sons and daughters of God, and the beloved of Him whose sins are not counted against them.
