The last few months more than once now the Lord has spoken about being an ambassador. What does it mean to be an ambassador?
We know that an ambassador represents someone, not their own interests, but the interests of those they represent. An ambassador is trusted to carry an important message. And that in their representation of someone, they do so with excellence, and with faithfulness for the intended message and purpose.
Christ says we are ambassadors:
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20).
The message God gives us to share with others is this: Be reconciled to God. He does not want to count our sins against us. It’s the message of forgiveness and restoration of relationship with God.
The means is that we are to share it. We are the ambassadors. We go and do the work. If we have the message, and we do not go, then we are not ambassadors. We are only ambassadors when we A) Have the Message, and B) Deliver the. message, and C) Make decisions in line with the purposes of those we are sent by.
How we represent matters also. An ambassador does not come sloppily, but with sincerity of mission. They come honorably.
With this in mind, are we walking in the role of the ambassador? Are we representing Christ well, carrying his message, and delivering it faithfully to others, whether they receive it or not?
