When a King Gets Victory – Ps 21

Ps 20 is a prayer before going into battle, and Ps 21 is after the battle has been one.  It is a joyous occasion.

LORD, the king finds joy in your strength.  How greatly he rejoices in Your victory!” (v. 1).

You give him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in your presence” (v. 6).

And how and why did this happen?

For the king relies on the LORD; through the faithful love of the Most High he is not shaken” (v. 7).

David was called, anointed and established by the LORD.  And David put his trust in him.  After all he was a man after God’s own heart.

It’s interesting too in this psalm that David didn’t say it as his enemies, but rather the people they were doing battle against were the enemies of the Lord.  Now we don’t which battle this was or who the enemies were, but for whatever reason they were living in open rebellion against God.  And after a season, God in his goodness rendered justice to them through the armies of Israel.

Be exalted, LORD, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might” (v. 13).

LORD, the king finds joy in your strength.  How greatly he rejoices in Your victory!” (v. 1).

You give him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in your presence” (v. 6).
