When people describe heaven, it’s usually in terms of “the streets of gold.” And while heaven is described as being adorned in beauty and wealth (Rev 21), it isn’t the treasure of heaven. It isn’t the point of eternal life. Because you can have all the gold in the world, and all the beauty of this life and still feel empty. I used to live in Hawaii alongside the wealthiest people in the world. I should know.
Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Eternal life actually begins now. With knowing God and Jesus Christ his Son whom he sent.
This is the point, the treasure, the goal and the focus of eternity–Knowing Him.
And that begins today.
