v. 2
Is this about business and diversification? Or is it about generosity?
New International Version
Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
King James Bible
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
New American Standard Bible
Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth.
The Hebrew word is “give” but the context makes it so it could mean either diversity income streams or generosity. Honestly, its not so clear. I lean more towards diversity of income as it fits the rest of the chapter about working and not waiting until everything is perfect to plant the farm.
The bottom line though is Solomon once again says to enjoy life while you can, because it is fleeting and will all be gone. Even that is futile.
