To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Errors and Evil Under the Sun – Ecc 10

Position does not define a person, says Solomon.  Sometimes there is an evil under the sun and it looks like this–a foolish man is somehow placed on the throne while a wise man remains in a low position.  Some of the best people are princes but they serve as servants to those who ride on horses and in places of honor, yet are fools and slaves (v. 6).

And here’s a truth:

Just as a dead fly ruins a perfumer’s oil so even a little stupidity outweighs wisdom and honor (v. 1).

Woe to you also who have rulers who feast in the morning.  They just start their day with food and drunkenness.  There is a time for feasting and it is to give strength to people and not for drunkenness.  But somehow this is forgotten by rulers of the land (v. 17-18).

But be careful.  If you speak against a ruler, a little birdie may hear and take it to the ear of the king.

This is the wisdom and advice given by Solomon.
