Biblical signs, wonders and miracles are about freeing others. It is the sick healed, the demonic delivered and the people hearing the gospel. It isn’t flash and show. It isn’t magic. It’s the power of God loving people.
The focus though isn’t signs and wonders. Rather, they confirm the preached message. Look at the text here:
Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city (Acts 8:4-8).
Did you see it?
“They all paid close attention to what he said.”
Philip was preaching the gospel. The signs and wonders, also known as healing and deliverance, confirmed the message he was preaching. Signs and wonders accompanied the preaching of the gospel.
It reminds me of a story of a group that went to a mind, spirit, soul conference. At the conference was mainly people practicing spiritism and divination. While there people were getting spiritual words for the people and praying for healing. Some were receiving healing.
But when later asked, the people said they were amazed at the spiritual encounters at all the booths. At the Christian booth, they had been touched by the supernatural, but no one had preached the gospel to them. So they interpreted their encounter as just another spiritual experience.
We are called to preach, heal and deliver. All of them together. The miracles affirm the word preaching, and the preaching connects people to the source of their healing and their ultimate healing – salvation through Christ.
