The opening of Mark says something startling: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”
I’ve pretty much missed it my whole life. Let’s read it again – “The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”
This means it’s only the beginning of the good things God has in store. It’s just the beginning of the good things in Jesus Christ.
Mark tells us the journey from the beginning of Jesus’ life to his death and resurrection. But even at his death, this is just “the beginning.”
The beginning of good things. Good news. And goodness in Jesus Christ.
