To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

The Exodus and the Staying- Jn 6:66-68

66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

The Twelve disciples didn’t understand.  They truly didn’t.  And nor did the massive crowds that had followed Jesus.  They saw the miracle of the bread and literally boated wildly to the other side of the lake to continue to follow him, but then he preaches THAT sermon.  The “eat my body and drink my flesh” sermon.  They didn’t get.  No one did.  So everyone left in droves.

So Jesus asked the Twelve, “Do you want to leave, too?”

I still don’t think they understand.  But they knew this–there was no one else to go to other than Jesus.

Sometimes we don’t understand.  Sometimes we suffer for a LONG time and wonder why we’re not delivered.  Sometimes we wonder if I’m a Christian in heaven and they are too, how is this going to work?

It was that kind of day for me.

And then I remembered Peter.

We don’t have to have all the answers to our soul’s satisfaction.

Sometime we even fear the answers.  Or perhaps even the question.

But like Peter, even when we don’t understand, we still believe.

Because at the end of the day, I’d rather be with no one else other than Jesus.
