“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
The poor in spirit are those who are humble. This represents the very nature of Jesus who in his humility left the Father’s side to come to this mess of a life. Humble. For sure theirs is the kingdom of heaven because humility is the mark of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
More on this one later
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Meek is bridled strength. It was used of war horses who were kept under control by bit an bridle. Certainly the powerful who exercise self-control are worthy to have authority on the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Jesus fills that in every way.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Give and it will be given to you.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
The purity see God everywhere, in this life and the life to come. It’s as if the pure in heart have the eyes of their spirit wide open.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
God has been on a mission of peace since the first day man declared war against him in the garden. To be a peacemaker is to be like God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Living righteously draws persecution. Just turn on the news. See those who are standing up for righteous principles. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven because they are living it in spite of the risks.
