In the last 24 hours I’ve had conversations with those who follow Jesus and are Christians, even teach in church, yet sin freely. I’ve also watched a national public figure who claims Christ and it’s announced in every Christian publication out there, but is openly, and I mean openly in sin and no one seems to care.
What has happened? Has the Bible no authority? Is there no such thing as sin any more? Are we our own moral authority? Has church become a doctrine of just “be nice” and not sin, righteousness and judgment to come (Jn 16:8)? And the resultant joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom 14:17)? Is there no fear of God among God’s own people (Heb 10:26-29)?
What is the sacrifice of Jesus if it wasn’t to pay the penalty of our sins, and yet we keep living in evil? And justifying it openly and freely? Without shame? And attacking those who actually adhere and believe the words of the Scripture?
Do we get to pick and choose which sins we keep and which ones we discard? Does culture dictate what we believe greater than the Word? Are God’s people still in the Word? And does it matter anymore? Is church just a place of inspiration speeches without truth in their love?
My heart grieves.
