How much evil do you think I can tolerate? That may have been a question of the LORD. Ezekiel 22 is a laundry list of their incessant and incestuous evil:
- Shedding of blood
- Idolatry
- Every prince within you has shed blood
- Father and mother are treated with contempt
- Foreigners are unlawfully exploited
- Fatherless and widow are oppressed in you
- You despise My holy things
- You profane my Sabbath
- You have men who slander to get others killed
- Eat at the mountain shrines
- Commit immoral acts
- You have sex with your mother-in-law
- You have sexual relations during a woman’s menstruation
- Adultery
- Sexual relations with daughters-in-law
- Sexual relations with your sister
- Accepting bribes to shed blood
- Take interest and profit on a loan
- Brutally extort your neighbor
- You make dishonest profid
- Your prophets seize wealth and valuables
- Your priests do violence to My instruction and profane My hole things
- They make no distinction between the holy and the common
- They make no distinction between clean and unclean
- They shed blood and destroy lives for money
- Your prophets make up false visions that the Lord has not spoken
- The people practice extortion
- They commit robbery
- They oppress the poor and needy
God says in every way His judgment is warranted.
“I searched for a man among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap beffore Me on behalf of the land so that I might not destroy it, but I found no one” (v. 30).
“Therefore I have made you a disgrace to the nations and a mockery to all the lands. Those who are near and those far away from you will mock you, you infamous one full of turmoil” (v. 4-5).
Do we do no less?
