Johanan had just done a heroic thing and rescued some Israelites from the evil Ishmael. They were now on their way to Egypt believing that would be their safest bet. But before they headed that way, they decided to ask the man of God.
Jeremiah prayed and after 10 days got an answer.
DON”T GO TO EGYPT. Stay in the land and God would be with them.
The next chapter will show us their response.
When we ask things of the LORD, it’s important that we prepare our hearts to obey. Are we wanting God to affirm our decisions, or are we wanting the truth?
I’ve been guilty. When I didn’t get the answer I wanted, I questioned whether I heard the Lord correctly. Have you done that?
It’s got to be much more difficult when your life is on the life. That and the life of others. But unlike Gedaliah they did seek the LORD, but I’m not so sure they were prepared for the answer.
