Celebrate your festivals

Celebrate Your Festivals

God takes celebration seriously.  The people of Israel were actually commanded to celebrate the festivals of the Lord they were given.  If they didn’t?  There was actually judgment.

Celebrate your Festivals

That’s how serious God is about celebration.  Because the celebrations of the Jews pointed to Christ.  But they also celebrated the goodness of God.

There is something to celebration.  Our national holidays are not just ordinary days.

Today it is the 4th of July in the US.  We celebrate our birth as a country, believing God planted a new country to serve His purposes.  Sometimes those purposes have been fulfilled.  Sometimes they have not.  But regardless, we are to celebrate.

Today many people if they worked could make extra money on their jobs.  Holiday pay is real.   And it is easily justifiable.  Just on the basis of the money alone to help others.

But then there’s that theme throughout Scripture – Celebrate your festivals.

It’s not just “another day.”  It’s only that if you treat it like that.

Nor is it a day to make the holy something common, something Ezekiel warns about.  Not that some national celebration days are “holy,” but they are to be treated as something special.

And so today we celebrate.  We celebrate our corporate identity, who we have become, and we celebrate one another.

Celebration is of God.  So if you are American, then today is the day.  Honor God with this day. And enjoy one another.

Celebrate your festivals with righteousness, holiness, joy, food and dance.
