We have all watched the explosion of events between Israel and Gaza the last number of days. It’s been a horror and way too many have perished. The resounding question often is why? Why so much killing? Why so much hate? Why so much evil?
There are many reasons on many different layers and levels. But the root of it all is in one’s relationship with the LORD. While God blessed the descendants of Ishmael, it is with Isaac that his covenant was made. Today the descendants of Ishmael are the Arab and Persian world and the descendants of Isaac are the Jewish people.
Since day 1 the powers of darkness have come against the people of God. Sometimes the Israelites were righteous and sometimes they were more evil than those around them. God clearly says his blessing of them was not because of their righteousness, but because they were chosen. Sounds a lot like us who are in the LORD.
Strangely enough, babies of the Jewish people have always been the target, whether internally or externally. Internally in Israel the god of Molech was set up and the people of Israel willingly sacrificed their babies to Molech. Abortion was established and people willingly kill their babies in worship of a new god.
Externally babies were targeted when Jesus was born. We read about it here in Matthew 2. And once again in October 2023, we read again of babies being killed and beheaded.
Where is God? Where is hope? Where is there any redemption of all the evil?
For those outside the conflict zone like myself, it is a nice question that I ask in relative safety. But for those who are having bombs dropped on their heads on both sides, it’s not so much a thinker’s question but raw, agonizing cry of anguish.
As one has said, there is a hope in this story. As one has said, it is where justice, love, forgiveness and hope come together. I have made a video about it. It’s one video I watch over and over. I encourage you to watch it to the end. It’s about that other time babies were killed in Israel. And the hope despite it all.
