Prophecy in Jeremiah 49 about Iran/Elam

Elam/Persia – Is Prophecy Being Fulfilled? Jeremiah 49

Is prophecy being fulfilled this week?  In Iran?  The following prophecies have yet to be seen historically to be fulfilled.  Keep in mind that “Elam” is in Iran.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. 36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of Elam shall not come. 37 I will terrify Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their life. I will bring disaster upon them, my fierce anger, declares the Lord. I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them, 38 and I will set my throne in Elam and destroy their king and officials, declares the Lord.

39 “But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam, declares the Lord.”

There are two theories.

  1. Iranians have already been scattered to the winds.  Where can you go that there are not Iranians?  Some believe that this part of the verse is what we see today.
  2. Others believe that there is something more.  That another scattering is going to happen.  Will it take place because of what happened this week with the elimination of 3 nuclear facilities?

Here’s another factor to consider.  Iran has the fastest growing church in the world today.  Is God setting his throne in Elam?

Either way, there is great hope for this land.  Their fortunes will be restored, and God will place his throne there.  It doesn’t mean he won’t establish his throne in Jerusalem, but it means he will be worshiped and praised and be central to Iran.

I know there are some people who read this who are very much hate Israel/pro-Iran folk.  And there are others who are pro-Israeli and hate Iran.  I’m not advocating for either, but rather that we look at the promises of God.

God has promised great revival in Israel.  He has promised a return to him.  And he has established the land of Israel.  These are in Scripture.

But we also see blessings to a nation like Iran.  We can’t leave that at.  To say God will establish his throne there is hugely significant.  While he says there will be judgment, he also promises great resotration and purpose.

So let’s pray for both.  That both Israel and Iran would humble themselves before God.  That they would like to the One True God, Yahweh, and worship him.  Israel needs Jesus.  And so does Iran.

Let’s pray for them both.  That they would both come under the rulership of the Prince of Peace.
