Solomon observes another tragedy. God gives a man riches so that he lacks nothing, but God does not allow him to enjoy it. A stranger does. This is a tragedy Solomon says. That another enjoys the wealth you have made and you don’t. We’re not sure what the cause of another enjoying it, but it could be anything. Money comes and goes.
But here is somewhat Solomon is alluding to. A man may have the blessing of a hundred children, but if he is not satisfied with his wealth and doesn’t have a proper burial, then a stillborn child is better off than he. That’s some strong words. He explains.
If a man lives in darkness all his life not enjoying what he has, he is not different than one who hasn’t been born and been able to enjoy the things of this life. They have the same fate in that both have darkness–one from not being born and one from not enjoying what he has been given.
The bottom line is to enjoy this life. Wherever you are at. Don’t let your wealth rob your joy with worry, or your lack of wealth steal life’s pleasure through distress. Enjoy what you have.
