Isaiah’s job was not pleasant.  He was prophesying that God was getting ready to do a global shake-up and the world leaders would fall.   Seems like it is happening again in our day, but it is not unprecedented.

It’s safe to say Egypt was one of the vast super-powers of the ancient world.  Their pyramids and commerce and military might were unstoppable.  Except by God.  And God said he was going to stop them as they were drowning in idolatry.

The way it was going to unfold was through civil war.  It was going to get ugly.  It would terrify her and she would tremble with fear (v. 16).

But it would be redemptive.  Instead of hardening their hearts even more Egypt would turn to the LORD.  Not only that but they would form an alliance with Assyria and Israel which is crazy.  These were mortal enemies.  But in reality it was a sign that peace would come to Egypt.  Truly a miracle.
