‘I don’t need to do anything about my sin as I’m assured of my salvation because of grace.’
???!!!
But what about…
Grace…teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age (Titus 2:12)
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means!” (Rom 6:1)
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh (Gal 5:13)
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal 5:19-21)
“Repent” is used 54x in the NT.
“Produce fruit in keeping with repentance…The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire” (Heb 6:5-7)
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so. It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned. (Heb 6:1-8).
Just do good and God’s grace will catch you. He loves you after all. This is what is being taught. But how far from the truth of the gospel.
We must take the whole counsel of God.
Repentance is a necessary part of obtaining our salvation in Christ. Not moral perfection, but an acknowledgment of sin and working towards becoming like Him.
Has repentance been erased from Scripture? Does sin not matter to God because He is the big teddy bear in the sky?
Read the Bible.
We all need tremble at His holiness.
And thank him for the gift of repentance.
Then walk in the fruit of righteousness.
