God made the heavens and the earth, and is above them (v. 1). So what house can mere man build for God? God looks at the heart and not the buildings. He looks to the person who is humble (v. 2).
One may slaughter an animal in sacrifice to God, another may slaughter another man. One does good and another does evil (v. 3-4). But God desires the man whose heart trembles at his word (v. 5).
He called to the unrighteous but they hardened their hearts even further. Not only that but they mocked the people of God (v. 5).
But the Lord is the Lord of the suddenlies. He will bring fulfillment to his promises. In his time he will act quickly. He will make Jerusalem the city of Peace. But those who persist in evil will perish.
All nations will come to Israel to see the glory of the Lord. Even the islands will come, see and proclaim His glory among the nations.
Just like it says in Philippians 2, one day there will be a day when every knee will bow before him. Here in Isaiah it says,
“All mankind will come to worship Me” (v. 23).
But there will be judgment for those who have rebelled against Him. And here’s a distressing picture of hell that Isaiah ends with:
“their worm will never die, their fire will never go out, and they will be a horror to all mankind” (v. 24). Such is the righteous reward of evil crimes for those who are unrepentant.
