To kneel is to surrender to a greater authority.  When a soldier is captured and about ready to get his head chopped off, he is forced to kneel.  When someone is knighted by the Queen of England, the honored person being knighted must first kneel.  And when we kneel in prayer, it’s because we are surrendering to a greater authority.
