To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

In Their Suffering, They Didn’t Wait – Ps 106:13-15

“They soon forgot His works and would not wait for His counsel.  They were seized with craving in the wilderness and tested God in the desert.  He gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them” (Psa 106:13-15).

They didn’t wait for His counsel.  They were hungry.  They were thirsty.  They complained fiercely against Moses and in doing so were accusing God.

Did you come to kill us Moses?
If only we had died in Egypt where there was food…
You want us to all die of hunger?  Was that your goal Moses?

To grumble against the leader was to grumble against God.

Your complaints are not against us but against the LORD” (Ex 16:8).

In her mercy God heard them.  He would end up providing quail that flew in for their meat, manna that fell from heaven, and water from a rock.

But it didn’t happen the way God wanted.  Instead of complaining and attacking the leaders, God wanted them to seek Him out.  He wanted to know what was in their hearts, that they trusted His goodness.

This is me.

How often when suffering happens do I start to complain to God and accuse others for my suffering?  All the time.  And how often perhaps has God given me what I demanded but it wasn’t the way he wanted it?

They didn’t wait for His counsel.

They were suffering.  They felt like their lives were at risk.  And they didn’t wait.  They complained.

Perhaps instead they should have had a worship and thanksgiving fest.  Reminding themselves and telling the Lord that they trusted Him.  They believed even when their eyes didn’t see.

Let this be a note to self.
