When someone is sent out in ministry, it takes a team. This was no less true with Jesus. He didn’t go out alone. He was provided for by his team.
1) Jesus and his Team had Financial Backing
Luke 8:1–3: “Mary Magdalene… Joanna… Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.”
2) Jesus and his Team had Hosts for Housing
-
Martha, Mary, and Lazarus in Bethany (John 12:1–2)
-
Simon the Leper, Zacchaeus, and others hosted Jesus.
-
Hospitality made long-term itinerant ministry sustainable.
3) Jesus and his Team had Those who Provided Practically
-
Nicodemus (John 3, John 7:50, John 19:39) who helped prepare his body
-
Joseph of Arimathea, who gave his tomb (Luke 23:50–53)
4) Jesus had those Fasting and Praying and welcoming his coming
There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem (Luke 2:36-38).
When it comes to missions, new church plants, ministries and more, it takes a group. Not everyone can do all things, but everyone can do something.
