To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Judgment Against the Whole World – Jer 26

We truly cannot imagine the horror. It’s just not real to most of us on the earth. When God says he is going to be terrible times and then says “they will go out of their minds” (v. 16) because it is so awful, that sounds bad. And even as I write this, it doesn’t seem real.

“Again and again” Jeremiah through the Lord warned the people to repent. They would not. Not just Israel but all the peoples of the earth. They bowed down and worship wood and stones. And it made them “worthless” themselves.

Just repent, God said. And I will not bring upon the people such disaster.

No. A million times no.

So God was going to bring judgment. Judgment on all the inhabitants of the earth. Those in Israel and those beyond. It would be the same for priest as it would be for peasant.

It was going to be terrible times and the only thing needed was repentance. But it wasn’t there.

So are we moving into a time of judgment upon the whole earth again like we read in Jeremiah 26? Or is this all taking place because the powers of darkness are furious as the return of Jesus comes near?

I can’t say.

But I do know without a shadow of a doubt that justice and righteousness matter to God. And such sensibilities have seemed to have fled from the earth.

I am fully convinced that we are moving into a very, very dark time in history upon which horrors we cannot even fathom.

Some will say that history is repeating itself. Yes, it is. But this time it truly is different. This time there are several world powers with nuclear capacity that do not necessarily have moral restraint. This time it is the whole of the globe walking down the same path of rebellion against God thanks to the connection we have through internet and tv. This time I believe it will be different because of that.

Just yesterday I saw a comment on someone’s Facebook post about why pray when all these events are written in Scripture that they will come. I personally abhor this kind of thinking. It’s passive and futilistic.

God desires that we always pray. Always repent. Always turn to him. Some events may indeed be prophesied to come, but the severity of them may be lessened. That and God has always called to people to repent so he doesn’t have to fulfill his judgment. There is much we are expected to pray about. And intercede for.

We can pray that hearts turn to him. That God will have mercy. That He will pour out his Spirit on the earth that we may turn to Him that His glory may cover the earth.
