Like a Pool with the Water Draining Away – Nahum 2

Assyria. The most powerful empire of the Mesopotamian kingdom. THE world power. And now…they would be destroyed. They would be utterly conquered and they, who had taken so many others into captivity, would now themselves be taken captive (v. 6).

“Nineveh is like a pool and its water is draining away” (v 8).

Assyria. Whose national symbol was a lion. The Lord has something to say to them.

“Where now is the lions’ den, the place where they fed their. young, where the lion and lioness went and the cubs, with nothing to fear?” (v. 11).

Gone are those days. They once walked confident. Now they would tremble in fear.

Perhaps Assyria thought they were invincible. Too powerful. They’re military too strong. But every single nation in the world can fall. Especially when immorality runs rampant. Immorality weakens a nation. And Assyria had become a paper lion. All the trappings of power with none of the substance.

The LORD deals with nations.

He will deal with us.

Not just us, but all of us.
