What is in your hands? - Romans 16

Serving with What you Have in Your Hands – Romans 16:21-24

Timothy, my fellow worker, greets you; so do Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my kinsmen.

Tertius, who wrote this letter, greet you in the Lord.

Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus, greet you.

Paul once again closes in on final greetings.  Everyone knows Timothy and Paul’s great love for him, so that is a given.  Then there are the relatives of Paul.

With Tertius, it was common to have scribes.  They were the human typewriters.

Gaius.  Wow.  He had a house.  He used it for the Lord.

I met a woman like that.  She did not have a huge house or large bedrooms, but her house is available to the saints.  They use her house often for outreaches.  Maybe you don’t have much, but if you have something, use it for the Lord.

Erastus, the city treasurer, greets them.  The kingdom was growing into even places of power and influence as would be expected.

Then Quartus sends greetings.  We don’t know much about him.

What is interesting is all served the kingdom but in different ways.

  • Paul – as an apostle
  • Timothy – as a co-worker to Paul
  • Tertius – as a scribe
  • Gaius – as a host to the saints
  • Erastus – in the community

Each one has a different place and a role.  They are all called to different things, but they are working together for the advancement of the kingdom.

What are you doing with what is in your hands?  How are you serving him?  How am I?
