Do you want to know an easy way to detect if a faith system is man made? Look at what is at the center.
I was watching a video this week of a guy touring the ancient ruins of Babylon. The tour guide mentioned that one of the priests of Babylon had a unique role. His job was to take the virginity of every woman that wanted to marry. If a couple decided to get married, it was his role as priest to determine from the gods if this was a good match. He did that by taking her virginity. He did this to every woman. She could not give her greatest gift to her husband.
Now who do you think was at the center of this? Man? Or God?
Look at the Baals and the Ashteroths that were always a stumbling block for the Israelites. The Ashteroths were about big breasts and the Baals were about having temple prostitutes to recreate production on the earth. It was all about lust and sex. And the Israelites stumbled continuously.
Who was at the center of this worship? Man’s lusts or God Almighty?
Take a major world faith today. Great people but let’s look at the faith. There’s the practice of muta which is where a man can have a marriage for 1 hour or a couple of days. The prophet married a 6 year old little girl and said it was Ok as he didn’t consummate the marriage until she was 9 (and yes it says she was pre-pubescent). Then heaven for them is the promise of 70 virgins. And if you die in battle heaven’s virgins are guaranteed for you. One person asked the prophet of this religion how would a man be able to take on that many women in a day? His response was that men in heaven could take a 100 virgins. Another source also said that men would have… um…physical readiness activated for all eternity.
So what is at the center of this? Man’s lust fulfilled? Or communion with Almighty God?
Take another very known faith with around 20 million followers. Again great people. But let’s look at the faith. It’s not obvious at first. They hold the promise that they will be gods and goddesses of their own planets. They will eternally reproduce. Men will have many wives and live in polygamy. Women will have forever families (although this isn’t even logical considering that all the children supposedly go off to be gods and goddesses of their own planets). Anyway this is more subtle. But do you see it? It’s about men being gods of their own planets and having eternal sex with unlimited women. And their original prophet when he lived? He had a revelation that he could have as many wives as he wanted but his wife had to give consent as part of free agency, but if she didn’t give consent she would face damnation for not letting him have however many women he wanted.
Who is at the center of this? Man as gods with eternal sex? Or is it about communion with God, Maker of heaven and earth?
And there’s today’s progressiveness. Love is love. Marry whoever and however. Be whatever gender you want. Have sex all you want and if you happen to get pregnant, there’s a pill for that.
What is at the center of this? Lust of man? Or communion with God?
If you think on it long, it doesn’t take much for the truth to be obvious.
