Is it really that hard to do what is right? It seems like we are always tempted to evil, but evil times come when individuals compromise. Especially the princes of the people of Israel.
The Lord says to them:
“”Put away violence and oppression and do what is just and right. Put an end to your evictions of My people.” This is the declaration of the LORD God. “You must have honest scales…” (v. 9).
Compromise in individuals makes nations weak. But righteousness will strengthen a nation.
Then God calls the people to step up their contributions again for the celebration of Passover. They were to bring holy, unblemished sacrifices to purify themselves from sin, both intentional sins and unintentional sins, and to make atonement. They needed God to “pass-over” their sins through this atonement.
Thankfully we have Jesus who is our permanent Pass-over of our sins through the shedding of his blood. But he too calls us to live in righteousness. To do what is just and right. To take care of the poor and needy and to deal honestly with people.
Can you imagine if both the people of the masses and the princes and prime ministers and presidents returned to righteousness? Let’s pray for that to happen.
