The Way of a Man With a Maiden
Some of the most simple thinks are some of life’s greatest mysteries:
“Three things are beyond me; four I can’t understand:
the way of an eagle in the sky,
the way of a snake on a rock,
the way of a ship at sea,
and the way of man with a young woman” (v. 18-19).
LOL! We think of pondering the mysteries of a nature, and then out of the blue one of life’s greatest mysteries, as one version puts it, “the way of a man with a maiden.” So true. Sometimes you see the most cranky, wretched man turn into a puddle of goo when he falls in love. It’s a sight to behold. And the things he will do for her love. Truly, these are mysteries.
A Prayer
This is such a good prayer (v. 8-9):
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.
Our prayer just needs to be for our daily bread. That we can pay the bills. Both poverty and wealth can be a stumbling block. It’s Ok in that we can learn to be content with little or much (Php 4), but it’s such a blessing when our daily bread is provided for.
Honoring Parents
The Scriptures say a lot about honoring parents. Sometimes depending on your home situation this is easier said than done. But honor is important to God in the family.
11 “There are those who curse their fathers
and do not bless their mothers;
12 those who are pure in their own eyes
and yet are not cleansed of their filth;
17 “The eye that mocks a father,
that scorns an aged mother,
will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley,
will be eaten by the vultures.
