Yes, Obadiah is a small little book. But it does have some important things we can glean.
- Israel may fall a thousand times but it will always rise again because they are the covenant people of God.
- God hates a prideful heart in prideful nations. If a nation has been raised up, it is because of God. And He can just as easily remove it.
- No matter what our “brothers” have done to us, it is evil to not help them, to rejoice over their suffering, to profit off their hardship and more. We are to help one another, especially those we are related to. In some situations this is easier said than done when there is a bitter history such as the likes of Jacob (Israel) and Esau (Edom).
- Passivity and doing nothing to help others is an evil of its own. There is a time to stay out of another’s business, and there’s a time to engage.
- He who thinks he is secure because of his money, military prowess, alliances and more is a fool. No nation is ever fully secure. That’s why we must always be people who look to God for our help, humbling ourselves before Him, not matter which nation in which we live.
