Silver can be mined and gold refined. Coal, iron and copper come from the deep places of the earth, in shafts where no bird of the air or prey of the land has seen. And yet where does one go to mine wisdom?
It can’t be found in the depth of the ocean or gold exchanged for it. Wisdom is beyond pearls. So where does wisdom come from?
“God understands the way to wisdom and He knows its location” (Job 28:23).
“He said to mankind, “The fear of the Lord is this: wisdom. And to turn from evil is understanding” (Job 28:28).
Even in his suffering, Job has a profound sense that even if all goes bad in life which it has for him, the greatest treasure of life is to love and fear the Lord and to turn from evil.
Suffering does not change that.
