To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

A Psalm by the Ocean – Ps 93

If you have ever sat by the ocean when the waves are roaring in, there is inevitable a breathtaking sense of power.  There’s a sense of wonder to it all.  I can imagine that this psalm was written by the ocean (Ps 93:3-4):

The floods have lifted up, Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their pounding waves.
 Greater than the roar of many waters—
the mighty breakers of the sea—
the Lord on high is majestic.

Something about the wonders found in nature point us back to the power and majesty of God (Ps 93:1).

The Lord reigns!  He is robed in majesty.

And the the psalmist says something interesting (Ps 93:5):

holiness is the beauty of Your house

When we think of holiness, we tend to think of neat, sanitized, sterile and white.  Either that or tens of thousands of angels in worship forever and forever.  Yet we forget that is holiness is all things set apart working for God, working in the ways of God and honoring his ways.  Holiness is so much more.

Just think of unholiness, where sin reigns.  Is there joy?  Is there peace?  Is there life?  Unholiness is the place of brokenness, pain and hurt.  Only the sinful enjoy unholiness but only for a short time until they themselves become the recipients.

But holiness is the place of great beauty, of joy, of laughter, of creation, of color, of worship, of playfulness and more.  Holiness is the beauty of His house.  And can also be the beauty of our house.

Have you ever been in a home where there is just such peace and joy and relationships?  It’s a great place to be.
